Q: Watch not capturing my activity And I'd like to log it

i just bought my Apple Watch. I worked out quite hard for 35 minutes this morning but it was not captured at all in the data. It said I had three active minutes and I'd like to log the workout and claim my activity. Any ideas on why it didn't recognize I was being active?. I had a Fitbit prior to this and was always able to go back and log activity if I forgot to set my watch prior to starting my session. Also, what apps would you recommend I pair with the watch? I notice there's a lot of running apps suggested, but I do more of boot camp type training. Thanks!

    Hi

If you used the Workout app, your workout may have accidentally been paused or ended early.

This can happen if the watch loses contact with your skin, causing it to believe that it has been removed from your wrist. This would cause the Workout app to pause automatically. A loose fitting band can trigger this by allowing your watch to lift from your wrist and/or by allowing clothing (for example, the end of a sleeve) to slip beneath the back of the watch.

During exercise, Apple Watch should be worn snugly on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening your band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards. Better contact with your wrist may also improve heart rate sensor performance during your workout.

Also, to avoid accidental interactions with your watch during your workout (including ending workouts early), you can lock the screen. At any time after starting a workout, press firmly on the display and tap on Lock. When you are ready to end the workout, press firmly again and first tap on Unlock.

If you are instead referring to the Exercise ring, note that, to credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk.

The definition of a brisk walk depends upon your personal information. To check that your personal information is accurate:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch tab > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

During general daily wear, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of crediting progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you exercise.

If you take your iPhone along on outdoor walks or runs and record the activity using the Workout app, your watch can also use GPS data from your iPhone to help estimate speed and distance. However, Exercise credit will still only be awarded for periods of activity that meet or exceed the equivalent of a brisk walk.

Calibrating your watch also helps to improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.

Health and fitness data from Apple Watch, iPhone and any other sources is shared to and aggregated by the Health app on your iPhone. When presenting data within charts, the Health app adjusts results to avoid any double counting of data from different sources.

    To delete a workout:

    - On your iPhone, in the Health app (icon: red heart on a white background), go to: Health Data (tab) > Fitness > Workouts > Show All Data > swipe left on a workout and then tap on Trash / Delete.

    To manually add a workout:

    - On the same Workouts screen, tap on Add Data Point > enter your workout results.

However, manually adding a workout within the Health app will not update Exercise or Move goal progress in the Activity app on your watch (this cannot be manually added or edited).
