Deleting iPhoto Events

I have been moving images out of the iPhoto Events folder and into new/existing albums and then deleting the old album under events. I notice that when I did this, the photos I just moved disappear from the album I just moved them too. I was under the impression that when you move them into another album they wouldn't delete even after deleting the old event album. What am I doing wrong that is making this happen?

When creating/ moving to a new album, I highlight the photos > go to the plus sign on the top right > click new album > then I either Enter a Name in or I choose an already existing album and click OK. I don't understand what I am doing wrong that they delete when I delete from the Events folder when they are moved into a new album.

Please help!

How are you deleting from the events folder?

To get rid of the iPhoto Events albums do not delete the photos in the iPhoto Event albums, just select the event in the sidebar, ctrl-click it, then select "Delete album". This way the photos will stay in the library and in the other albums you added them to. To show the sidebar, use the key combination ⌥⌘S.

If you are using the "Delete Album" command, you should be seeing this notification, showing you that the other albums will not be affected and it is safe.
