appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly

after updating my iPhone I was asked to use the double authentication code, I had no idea of what kind of nightmare this is. I spent hours going from a device to another checking passwords and authentication codes. The last one is the Apple TV, after this stupid innovation my appleTV keeps asking for my AppleID, password and authentication code, and than goes back to the request for the appleID. Basically my AppleTV is useless. how can I eliminate the stupid authentication code, that makes all my devices basically inaccessible?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

Hope this helps? No. It doesn't.

This is Apple TV, not the next release of The Room.

Instructions should be clear and easy to follow and not rely on undisclosed hacks like some of you have laid out. Apple is losing customers because they can't deliver a product that should be simple to use.

I agree it is not an anti-consumer decision, however none of this has brought success to my 2G Apple TV. I can easily log in to the iTunes Store using the method of appending the 2FA code to the end of my password as well as iCloud the same way. This certainly suggests that 2FA is supported on a 2G Apple TV, as long as it has been updated to 6.2.1 as also seems to be the case with people who have had success in getting Home Sharing to work on 2G Apple TV's by appending the code.

As far as connecting to Home Sharing - that has been a complete no-go for me. I have Reset the Apple TV more than once and even changed my Apple ID password just to ensure everything was the same. So far nothing has brought joy with my 2G Apple TV. Extremely frustrating and disappointing that I now have a very limited use Apple TV.

I cannot understand why random Apple TV owners get things to work by appending the code to their password yet many others do not. One person in a thread I was reading has just said, "it does work," which does not help the many people for whom it absolutely does not work. Perhaps people should state that, "it should work."

I do understand the frustration of the poster who initially said "anti-consumer" because I am right there in frustration but disagree about it being an anti-consumer decision on Apple's part.

I was having this same issue with an older (likely first generation, ca. 2012?) Apple TV: I was able to log into iTunes okay but couldn't get into iCloud as it kept rejecting my password and the 6-digit verification code. This issue seems to have cropped up over the past couple of months so I presume there was perhaps a software update issue...(??) After reading about the workaround to beat the 30 second timeout for the verification code, I was poised and ready, BUT...this time it worked without any further input! So thanks Apple, for apparently fixing this bug and allowing me to steam music and photos once again through the Home Network!

I can say that for me personally, none of the suggestions, tips or guides in this thread, or really anywhere else, worked for me.

This is on an up-to-date 2nd Gen Apple TV.

I did not notice this in this thread so if it is there, my apologies.

What did finally work for me was getting the code from my phone when I got the pop-up on my iPhone Xr where it says a device is trying to connect. I had to open the pop-up and click "Allow" which then popped up a security code that I entered after my Apple ID passcode while trying to sign in on my Apple TV.

I also had spent way too much time trying to get this to work with all the tips and guides but this one worked for me instantly. I feel badly if it does not help anyone else suffering through this ridiculous, frustrating and time consuming sign in.

It took multiple attempts for me to get my 1st generation Apple TV to work properly again at home in BC but it ultimately resolved itself. It was thus with some trepidation that I Initiated the software update on my other 1st generation Apple TV at our seasonal home in California but it went off without a hitch; I suspect that perhaps there was a bug in the initial software update that might have now been squashed so maybe anyone who is having difficulties might try reinstalling the original as-delivered software, then update it after that...(??)

Turn off and back on again.

Issue started after updated iPhone. I tried the whole putting in the verification code appended to the password in the sign-in, which has worked for me previously, but it still didn't stop the constant asking for appleID, password loop.

In the end, I used what another support article suggested and I unplugged my appleTV box, waited, and plugged it back in to reboot.

That worked.

Thank you for this! I spent about an hour with the stupid signing in and out of ICLOUD and putting in codes. No luck. Until I saw your response. I don't know why the iTunes app on Apple TV shows the message that it is having a problem signing into ICLOUD and to "try again later" when the fix is to sign out and sign back into ITUNES. You would think that with all the people at Apple who work on Apple TV, someone could tell the difference between ICLOUD and ITUNES.

It will work, you have to make sure Apple ID is correct on you iphone go to

1 settings

2 click on name

3 password and security, enter password

4 Get verification code KEEP THIS CODE

Go to apple tv

5 Submit Apple ID

6 Enter your password then enter the verification code with no spaces and submit. Example password Jupiter00 + verification code 123456 as such

Jupiter00123456

hit submit and it will work

Enjoy 😊

It is very possible to do and works like any generation once its done all you have to do is

Have a device you use that is already signed into your Apple ID

On the apple tv Go to the sign in page on and enter your Apple ID

Now on your device,

go into settings,

click on your name,

click on password & security,

go down to “get a verification code” click on it to get one, you will need this code so keep it on your phone or jot it down especially if you use your phone as a remote

Go back to apple tv click submit to go to the password page then enter your password with the verification code as one word do not use any spaces

(example marypoppins906564) then submit,

this should get your apple tv all set up and signed in without 2FA 😊

I did this and it worked. I was having the same problem where I would enter the password to get the code, put The code in, and it would take me back to where I had to re-enter my Apple ID. I did a full restart on my Apple TV. Logged out of my account on the Apple TV. I restarted the device again and I was able to add my Apple ID, the password, then Enter the code and the Apple TV registered and is working.
