Download bar won't disappear

Hi,

I had encounter this issue in previous version of OS X. After my download finish, the download bar below the download folder located at the launchpad won't dismiss itself as shown in my attached image. I need to reset my launchpad to clear it.

Hi yqchen82,

If I understand your question, you'd like to know why the status bar for your Downloads folder doesn't disappear when the download is complete, is that correct? This is happening in OS X El Capitan and previously in OS X Yosemite.

First, check to see if you have any downloads that have not completed, and temporarily turn off Automatic downloads if you have your system set up that way.

Resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads

Turn on Automatic Downloads (The title of the article states to turn on Automatic Updates, but I'm suggesting you turn them off.

Next, I would suggest is to start your computer in Safe Mode, download a file and see if the icon clears. If it does, restart your computer and try it again. If it does not, create a new user account, and test a download using that account.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

Starting up in safe mode

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

  1. Start or restart your Mac.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Since this is happening in more than one operating system, the issue may be with your user account. Here's how to test:

I've seen this a few times. Generally it indicates that the Dock hasn't properly updated its status. Restarting the Dock application should fix it.

You could fix it by logging out and logging back in.

Or, if you're familiar with the Terminal application, you could fix it by:

Opening terminal and typing: killall Dock

I'm 99% sure that would fix it. If it doesn't, you could try typing: killall Finder
