Q: i cannot receive verification code on mac

suddenly, since a week ago iMessage forwarding service stopped in my mac mini-mid 2011

I tried everything I know to reactivate the service again, but nothing worked.

I did the following:

sign in and out, from both iPhone and mac

reset my network settings in iPhone

remove my iCloud account from mac and iPhone

make sure that my devices connected to the same wifi network -although it doesn't matter -

make sure handoff is working

when trying to activate text message forwarding, messages app in mac open but no code appears.

I noticed this since the announcement of new update for Messages in mac.

    Hi ibadran,

I understand you are having issues with Text Message Forwarding on your Mac mini.  Did this start happening when you updated to OS X El Capitan 10.11.4?  First, I would suggest contacting your carrier to see if they have an updates, since text messaging is done through their service.

    iOS: Updating your carrier settings

Check your system information (Apple menu > About This Mac).  I don't see a 2011 Mac mini listed in the System Requirements below.  That may be the reason this is not working out for you.

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

To use Continuity, check that your iOS device or Mac meets the system requirements for this feature.

    Handoff and Instant Hotspot

Handoff and Instant Hotspot are supported by the following Mac models, and require OS X Yosemite or later:

    • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 and later)
    • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later)
    • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
    • iMac (Late 2012 and later)
    • Mac mini (Late 2012 and later)
    • Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Handoff is supported by the following iOS devices and requires iOS 8 or later. Instant Hotspot requires one of these iPhone or iPad devices with cellular connectivity and iOS 8.1 or later. Instant Hotspot also requires Personal Hotspot service through your carrier.

    • iPhone 5 or later
    • iPad Pro
    • iPad (4th generation)
    • iPad Air or later
    • iPad mini or later
    • iPod touch (5th generation) or later

    SMS

With Continuity, send text messages from your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch

With Continuity, all the SMS and MMS text messages that you send and receive on your iPhone can also appear on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch. You can also reply to your contacts from whichever device is closest to you, including your iPad or Mac.

You can start a conversation in the Messages app or click a phone number in Safari, Contacts, or Calendar.

Set up SMS and MMS with Continuity

    1. You need iOS 8 or later on your iOS devices and OS X Yosemite or later on your Mac.
    2. Sign in to iMessage with the same Apple ID on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Add a check to both your phone number and email address. Then go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and enable the device or devices that you want to forward messages to.
    4. Look for a code on the Mac, iPad, or iPod touch that you enabled. Then enter this verification code on your iPhone.

    Take care,

    Hi ibadran,

It's not that your Mac is no longer being supported, it's just that this particular feature isn't available on your 2011 Mac Mini.  There are new features on iOS like Split Screen that are not available on my older iPad, so I understand your disappointment.  But there are lots of other features, tools, etc. that are being introduced with each new update of Mac OS X and iOS that will work on most machines.
