How do I connect my iMac 27 to a USB flash drive from the front? What is the best cable to use one of the thunderbolt connections?

Adapters exist but they are pretty pricey at $80. I'd just do USB to USB.

I do exactly what you thinking of. I have a 1 meter USB cord that I leave off to the side hidden by my desktop tchotckes until I need it. It works great for everything from cameras to memory stick to small hard drives.

Small USB hubs are better and small 4 port USB hubs are cheap.
I,myself, am thinking about buying a small USB hub for easier hook up of USB flash drives and syncing up my iDevices.
