Q: Bookmark Icons in El Capitan All The Same (NO)Color
This is not a question but a statement regarding what seems to be a common problem after updating to El Capitan.
To be clear, my setup is the following: iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I have, however, seen complaints of this issue from differing hardware and software configurations, so this may apply. Use it if you can.
PROBLEM: You update to El Capitan and what I call the "uniqueness" of your bookmark icons disappears, leaving them all looking the same: plain-looking, blank page with one dogeared corner in Google Chrome. Safari inserted that ugly, blue orb. Prior to this, each icon had its own symbol, usually the symbol of the company. I.E., Time Warner Cable has that the blue, squiggly eye, YouTube had the red box with a center white arrow, and so on. For some of us(me), I became accustomed to clicking on the bookmark simply by looking at the symbol, not necessarily reading the name of the bookmark.
PROBLEM SOLVED: You're not going to like this. After visiting myriad web sites purporting to show you how to fix it, and there was never a simple fix, I have discovered a typically simple but tedious way that Apple has decided, without saying so officially, will fix the problem. The issue is they have never addressed the problem, which is typical and common. It seems they don't consider glitches like this to be worthy of mention. So much for Steve Jobs famous statement: "It just works." Those days are long gone. The fix: the user must visit each web site by clicking on each bookmark the bookmark folders. In my case, just below the address bar in Chrome, I have 10 bookmark folders. The TRAVEL folder has Delta Airlines, Travelocity, United Airlines and a place called Newfolden Minnesota, which is connected to my ancestral research. I have gone to the folder and clicked on each icon and it's Official Logo has now been restored.
This has worked for me in both Safari and Chrome. I sure hope this helps some of my fellow Applers out there.
