QuickTime security

In light of the recent security issues with the QuickTime media streaming/enhancement program, are we vulnerable? Apple has now abandoned security support for the QuickTime program! Where does that leave us? Those of us who have programs who have on our system that required the QuickTime platform to operate properly! Will Apple release patches for these programs, and/or do we uninstall them!
