Q: Exercise ring not counting on watch

i have noticed while doing an outdoor walk that I'm not getting exersize credit in the green ring. After many tests including not using the workout app at all with no avail.  I called apple support. We went through all troubleshooting, including unpairing and and re pairing as new. Nothing worked. Apple  was sent a new watch. I set up new watch as new did a 20 minute outdoor walk with an acreage of 123 bpm. And even with new watch no exercise! This used to work great. So frustrated. I'm out of shape trying to get in shape & it is very discouragingmwhen you work so hard & have nothing to show for it. And spending several hindered dollars for a function that doesn't work.  Could it be something on my iPhone 6S plus? When I think about it, It seems to not be working since I switched from my  6 plus to the 6S Plus.

    Since you do not mention it - did you calibrate the new watch after you set it up and paired it wth your iPhone?

    Hi

    Check that you have set up the Activity app on your watch:

    • When viewing the time on your watch face, tap on the Activity rings icon / complication, or;
    • Go the Home screen (via a single press of the Digital Crown) and tap on the Activity app icon (coloured rings).

    If it has not yet been set up, you will need to enter some personal information.

    Also check these settings:

    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Health are enabled.
    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking are enabled.
    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - turn this on.
    • If you have also enabled Passcode, ensure that unlock your watch after placing it on your wrist.

    To credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk. This applies both during general daily wear and when recording workouts via the Workout app. The definition of a brisk walk depends upon your personal information. To check that your information is accurate:

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch tab > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

    During general daily wear and when your iPhone is not taken along on certain outdoor workouts, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of crediting progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around and during workouts.

    It may also help to reset your calibration data and start calibration afresh:

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap on Reset Calibration Data.

    If you would prefer to receive Exercise credit for your workouts regardless of their intensity levels, track them via the Workout app using "Other" as the activity type.

    This will credit one minute of Exercise for each full minute of the workout. Active calories will be estimated at a rate equivalent to a brisk walk or based on data recorded by the heart rate sensor, whichever is higher.
