Problem with photo cropping in books

Photos 1.5 on MacBook Pro using Mac OS X 10.11.4

I am trying to create a book using a landscape photo as the cover in a landscape photo holder. The problem is that the top part of the photo is being cropped automatically by the software.

I have tried:

  • Cropping the original picture to different aspect ratios (e.g., 3:5, 9:16, etc.) - all in landscape format. Cropping still occurred when placing photo in photo holder.
  • Changing the theme. No themes prevented the cropping at the top of the photo.

Before I give up and use different software to product my photo book, I am hoping that one of you experts out there will be able to help.

You need to crop the photo to the exact aspect ratio of the photo placeholder, where you want to add it. Or shift the photo in the place holder, so you can ensure that the top part will not be cropped, but the bottom part instead.

Or ctrl-click the photo and use the command "Fit photo to frame". Then the photo will be scaled down instead of cropped. But that will show margins at the top and bottom.

For example: By dragging the placed photo up and down in the frame I can choose, if I prefer the ears or the nose to be clipped off, or use "Fit photo to frame", to show the full photo.

Or use a different title page layout, which will allow allow a photo box with a smaller width to height ratio.

Most of the book frames are 3;4 - unless your photos is the correct aspect ratio it can not all be seen (think of trying to put and 8"x12" photo print in an 8"10" frame - it can not be done without losing 2" of the photo - so either crop to the frame ration (again most likely 3:4) or right click (control click) on the placed photo and select fit to frame (everything will be visible with fill to make it fit)

Or it the photo is too large you can slide it around n the frame and often only lose things you do not care about

Thanks for the suggestions léonie, Old Toad, and LarryHN! I have tried playing around with moving the picture within the frame and there always seems to be a part of the picture not available - regardless of whether I have cropped it beforehand or not. This also happens when I ask it to fit to frame.

Here are some images to help illustrate my dilemma:

This is the original picture - note the sky showing at the top and right of the picture:

When I place the picture and scroll it to the upper right corner, this is what the page layout looks like in the book (upper right corner only):

If I select fit to frame, the image changes to the following (upper right corner only):

Any other suggestions?
