PowerBook G4 arrow keys blank covers

What's the name of those plastic bits around the arrow keys on an aluminum PowerBook G4's keyboard? I read online the they're called "blank covers" and that they should come off (at least on a PC keyboard), but I couldn't find reference to that name anywhere neither I was able to remove them.

Is it possible to remove them? If so, how?

I wonder what you would find if they were removed? A hole where there should be none when all the keys are put back?

These are merely spacers where there are no keys to PUT there.

I have a PB Pismo w/ "Bronze" keyboard... the key "tops" are actually "see thru" - these 'placeholding' dealios show what's underneath = two 'bars' that slide into 'slots' on the plastic bits
