Q: My hard drive is showing full with nothing stored on it

Overtime i go to use my mac book air my hard drive shows as being 100% full.

I have looked and it looks like it is making a copy of my iTunes products (music, videos etc) on my user account which i cant access.

Im sure its something to do with the iCloud settings after i have installed El captan.....

Any ideas

What do you mean by user account you cannot access?  This isn't making sense, sorry.

Based on what I can extrapolate from your post, you have iTunes set to automatically download your purchases across all of your devices. When this option is turned on, anytime you purchase an app, book, song or movie, it will automatically install on your computer, iPod, iPad, iPhone, and computer. There is an Apple support page that documents how to turn this feature on, or off, for whatever platform you are using (iOS, OSX, Windows).

Turn on Automatic Downloads - Apple Support

Once you turn off automatic downloads, you will habe to manually delete the content you don't want stored locally on your machine.

To do this, on PC, go to C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes> iTunes Media and then look in the music folder, which will contain all of your apps, music, movies etc.

To do this on Mac, open Finder > Music >  iTunes > iTunes Media

Delete the content you don't want to store locally, and you will regain free space on your HDD. Best of luck.
