iphoto library wont open

I have a 2010 macbook. My iPhoto library was so huge i put it on an external hard drive, then updated my operating system to Yosemite 10.10.3, iPhoto version 1.0. Now i can't open my old iPhoto library off of the backup hard drive. It says: 'In order to open “iPhoto”, you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store." When app store opens it says: "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store." Now what?!?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Update your software - the current OS is OS X 10.11.4 with Photos 1.5 - when you launch Photos 1.5 it should migrate your last used iPhoto library (see How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support) and if it does not drag then iPhoto library to the Photos icon in the Dock - and remember that Photos is a new program with many new capabilities but it does have a learning curve - here are some differences t- be aware of -- Photos 2.0 vs iPhoto 9.6.1: Features and Capabilities
