Q: Forgotten Apple ID and password

My son recently purchased a used iPhone 5C from one of his friends and she doesn't remember the Apple ID or password. We force restored the iPhone however when it reboots it continually asks for the Apple ID and password that is stored on the device. How can we erase the phone and restore to be used as a "new device" because we're locked out of the phone?

That is the activation lock -

Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

If the person who sold it cannot or will not remove it - then the phone is of no use to you
If the person is willing to work with you - have them do this

What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If they cannot help then consider returning the device for a refund
No one on this forum or Apple will be able to help in this case

The only other thing is - If the friend happens to still have the original purchase documents from Apple then bringing that along with the phone and proof of identity into an Apple store may work
