Q: my drive nearly full

Flash storage is expensive.  Should have opted for a plain hard drive if that's all you could afford.

All storage, you should be mindful it does not get 85% full.  Once it does, then it really is too full.

Time to offload photos, movies or something.

Before doing anything rash, there is a known bug that can cause the "Other" category to over-report its size. Normally reindexing the Spotlight database with fix it, so you should try that first. It is easy---Apple instructions are here:

If that does not fix the problem then you will need to follow a brody's sage advice.
