My 1st generation Ipad's battery is not charging. i read articles about trading in the old one and buying a new one for $100. the articles dated 2012, is this deal still available? is there any condition for it?

The question I would be asking is if I want to spend $100 on a battery replacement for a six year old iDevice that Apple ended all support for, at least, 4 years, ago.
You must take your iPad to the Apple Store, they test your battery. If it meets the qualifications you're eligible for a refurbished iPad for 99 dollars. Apple doesn't do replacements they just exchange the whole iPad. I'm not sure if the iPad 1 is still eligible for the replacement. You'll have to ask at the Apple Store.
