I read others who struggle running virtual machines in windows on bootcamp

mainly in terms of visual studio and emulating windows phone devices

if it's urgent then I would advice running the virtual machine in osx

that being said I'm pretty sure I run ubuntu on virtual box in windows in bootcamp on my iMac so it could be a setting or virtual box issue

If Windows was installed using legacy BIOS/MBR method on your 2011 Mac, then using Startup Disk in System Preferences invoked CSM-BIOS, which can be modified using Windows msconfig.
