Is it possible to 'lock' a Safari window?

I don't think this is possible at present, but I think it would be a very useful feature if implemented.

I frequently upload large video data files to online storage sites like FilesAnywhere etc, which is done by selecting a video file and then uploading via a browser window. These uploads can take many hours.

Once I've started an upload, I then minimise the browser window so that it sits in the dock to continue to upload out of the way. I've lost count of the number of times I've then inadvertently ended up clicking on a link in an email and opened the same browser window, thus stopping the upload. This means I then have to begin the upload from scratch. Very annoying. Now, if there was a way in which I could 'lock' that particular browser window to stop this from happening, I'd be very happy.

Can anybody offer any suggestions? Or could Apple consider this for an update to Safari?

G5, dual 2.7, Mac OS X (10.4.8), Safari 2.0.4

To let Apple know your suggestion, use the Safari menu -> Report bugs to Apple... feature.

It sounds like an interesting idea.

One way around this is to enable tabs in the Safari preferences and under the General preferences section, select the Open links from applications (*) in a new tab in the current window. That way when you click on a link, it should open in a brnad new tab rather than overwrite any existing ones.

It looks like iBod solved your problem here. I follow about 6 forums. I now do it ibod's way with tabs.

I used to do it your way by minimizing them to the bottom/right of the Dock.

Then you have to open a new Safari Window to go elsewhere.

I have minimized a slow renew page and gone elsewhere while it continued to do it's thing.

Offered as an alternative to anyone who doesn't care for ibod's tab method.

The tabbed method does seem to help a lot, but I still like my idea of being aable to 'lock' a particular browser window and keep it in the dock. 😉

I wouldn't argue w your desire for insurance that it was in fact locked particularly when it's in the middle of something lengthy per OP = Original Post.

I believe it is locked as long as you don't go and mess with it. [ Stay in your other page(s). ]

Maybe ibod or someone will chime in validate the idea or tell us it's only half vast. (See below.)
