Q: External Display artifacting when Macbook Air in Clamshell Mode
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Samsung ultrawide 34" monitor (model s34e790c) and have been using it in conjunction with just my Mid 2012 Macbook Air (13-inch, 1.8GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM) with both screens on (not mirroring) through a Mini DP to DP cable. Around a week ago I decided that to save space, i'd buy a small keyboard and mouse, and use my mac in clamshell mode to maximise desk space. Previously, with both my screens open, the combo worked perfectly. However when in clamshell mode (using a keyboard, mouse and power plugged in), my external monitor starts acting up. The monitor is OK at first, however as soon as I unplug the DP cable, or the mac goes to sleep temporarily, when it comes back on, the bottom 10 or so centimetres of my screen is covered in artefacts. They then won't go away until I undergo a restart or two, and normally a resetting of the PRAM. Then the process repeats. Again, this only occurs in clamshell mode; using the combo with the Macbook Air screen open is fine.
I have tried:
- Updating everything system-related in App Store
- Resetting SMC
- Resetting PRAM
- Restarting computer
- Unplugging the DP cable on both ends
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Callum.
