Apr 18, 2016 10:38 AM in response to fore55by Demo,I Was trying to backup my iPad yesterday and I got that same message at least 8 times. The message means exactly what it says. For reasons unknown to me, the backups could not be completed. I have about 38 GB of space in iCloud, so storage was not the issue. The backups would start and not complete. That was not the first time that I experienced that problem either. I just kept trying and trying, and it finally worked. I forced restarted the iPad, closed all apps, was getting ready to sign out of iCloud when it finally worked.
I Would suggest going through the steps in the support document that elcpu posted, but they are really just common sense things that IMHO are worthless when it comes to troubleshooting iCloud backups. Things like make sure that you are connected to WiFi.....well .... duh, thanks for the tip. In any event, I can't tell you why it happens, just keep trying. Maybe one of Apple's suggestions will work for you.

Apr 18, 2016 10:52 AM in response to Demoby elcpu,I am seeing more and more situations like this that are simply unexplainable, at least from my level of knowledge. iPhones and iPads used to be simple and straightforward to use but as more and more features get added, more and more issues develop. I am having an issue with my Photos App that has been going on since Dec. 2014. AppleCare has not been able to resolve. Yesterday I came across another thread on the same issue. Users there have been waiting for a fix that may never come. If interested see my post there towards the end.
Re: Photos sync'd to iPhone from iTunes all messed up in iOS 8.1
You are the top expert on these forums regarding iPads. If you are able to solve it, I and others would be eternally grateful - worthy of a Nobel for sure.

Nice of you to say, but not really. I have just posted more often than many others. Proof that I have no life. I will take a look at the other discussion.

Apr 20, 2016 10:10 AM in response to elcpuby fore55,I have looked at all that is associated to backing up on that page and none relate to my problem. I do not show it ever being backed up and when I looked at my other Ipad mini it shows the last back up as being in march. This making sure you are plugged in and have wi-fi and screen lock junk has no bearing whatsoever because it has ceased doing the backup on a device it used to before all of these upgrades started. My warranty is probably up and it was like pulling teeth to get help from tech support with getting my ipads to work like they did before they had the update installed. Unlike vehicles when a manufacturer knows of the defect they do not charge a consumer to fix the issue. Oh well guess backing up is out of the question.

Apr 20, 2016 12:13 PM in response to fore55by Demo,★HelpfulI wish that I had a definitive fix for you, bit I don't. All that I can tell you is to keep experimenting and trying different things. iCloud backups became extremely unreliable and hit and miss for me when I updated to iOS 9 last fall. I spent the better part of one entire day, signing out of iCloud on all devices, deleting iCloud backups, resetting settings, force restarting, turning Wifi off and on, trying different WiFi networks, turning off Find my iPhone....everything that I could think of to try, I tried. Finally, and for no reason that I can explain, my iPhone and iPad decided to both backup with iCloud.
I Don't know why it worked, but it worked. It continued to work for me until the other day when I tried to backup again. I swore that I would not go through all of the contortions that I went through before in order to use iCloud. I never auto back up with iCloud or auto sync with iTunes. I always initiate my own backups and I initate the syncing process with iTunes. I was ready to give up because I use iTunes for backups and I sync on a regular basis. I was beginning to really get ticked off, but for reasons unknown, it just started working again.
