To email photos, I understand that I am to click in the menu bar on 'mail'. 'Mail', 'Air Drop' and messages are checked in Extensions, but they are grayed out. I suspect this is the source of the problem. Any advise? Thank you

To mail a photo from Photos, select the photo and click the Share button in the toolbar. Mail should appear in the options.

what has changed since it worked?
In the Mail Application preferenced make sure Mail is set as the default mail reader
