Hi,
I am running El Capitan and am looking to create an On My Mac group of contacts in the Contacts app.
All contacts are currently synched with iCloud but I wish to create a new group that stays on the Mac.
Essentially I would like to prevent some contacts, specifically a Group, from being synched to iCloud and hence my iPhone.
Is there a way to do this? Appreciate any guidance.

Open iCloud preference pane and uncheck Contacts. That should remove iCloud contacts. Create a contact which will be local to the computer, then enable iCloud contacts again. That will put the On My Mac and iCloud in the sidebar.
Local contacts and groups will not sync to the iPhone.

Thanks for your help. I tried your suggestion and the local group gets included into the iCloud groups after I turn on Contacts for iCloud again.
Am I missing a step?

If you can get the On My Mac and iCloud showing at the same time, then you can add what you want. Problem is every time you turn off iCloud and turn it back on, everything gets merged into iCloud. Seems you can't stop this.
I hadn't realized this had changed so much since I keep everything in iCloud.
Other more familiar may have suggestions.
