There were a number of problems with this release. It bricked lots of ipads. Don't be surprised when the Genius Bar doesn't acknowledge common problems. Seems to be a common occurrence. Might be apple policy not to acknowledge problems.
Don't abandoned ship just yet.

Apr 19, 2016 2:58 PMby mwh12,Thanks for the responses - my iPAD ( one of three we own) remains unfortunately bricked and unable to restore even with updated iTunes and IOS. It appears Apple are happy to ignore the problem that occurred in the update, because the device is out of warrenty. The Genius Bar remains oblivious to the fact that many others have encountered this problem.

Apr 19, 2016 11:29 PMby J.Sund,One thing I'd try is putting the device in "true DFU" mode. It should force-update your device. Its worth a shot anyway
- Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable.
- Turn off the device.
- Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
- Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.
- Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
- After about 15 seconds you will be alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode.
- Update the iPad

Sorry, i didn't realize that you already updated the iPad.. But i'd still try this to get it out of DFU mode if the ol' hold home and powerbutton at the same time don't work.
