Q: bootcamp issue after failled attempt to install W10

Hey there

I tried to instal windows 10 on my

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5

64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

1tb SSD

dual AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB

so after using bootcamp assistant and setting a 80gb partition for windows then when windows installer booted up it would see the bootcamp partition i would format it into NTFS and then it would say that windows doesnt have the 8xxxxxxMB required and wont let me install =...

i tried different partition sized but didnt change anything and on my last ttry i repartitioned  the bootcamp partition from the windows 10 installer but  that didnt help and I still was unable to install windows.

I am able to boot OSX normally but  now iwhen i try to run the bootcamp assistant its give me that message :

The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

also i have the OSXRESERVED partition showing up\.

any solution ?

Thanks

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

You have two extra partitions - OSXRESERVED and the one you created using the installer. Please post the output of the following command from OS X Terminal.

    diskutil list

Please disconnect all external disks (disk2 and disk3) otherwise it causes problems. When you formatted within Windows installer, the installer created disk0s4-disk0s8. Keep all external disks disconnected till Windows is installed. Your Mac supports EFI Boot for W8.1 and W10. In step 4, you may get an error with GPT vs MBR, which can be corrected.

These need to be erased as follows and coalesced.

    1. Erase disk0s4-disk0s8 and make them HFS+ so they can be merged.

         diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ part1 disk0s4

         diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ part2 disk0s5

         diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ part3 disk0s6

         diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ part4 disk0s7

         diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ part5 disk0s8

    2. Merge partitions.

         diskutil mergePartitions JHFS+ BCMP disk0s4 disk0s8

This will create a single disk0s4

    3. Convert the merged diskspace to be FAT for BOOTCAMP

         diskutil eraseVolume FAT32 BOOTCAMP disk0s4

    4. Run BCA and try to install Windows.

What external storage or hubs are connected? Please also see Boot Camp: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one" alert during Windows 8 install - Apple Support .

Disconnect all external storage. I notice the scroll bar in the second screen, which implies you have additional storage connected to the Mac. After you disconnect external storage, run

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

and then re-run the BC A installation.

Excellent. Please back up OSX, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point for future recovery.
