Q: Photos not importing from my camera

Photos is not importing photos from my Canon Rebel EOS T5. I am not using the icloud (I refuse) and Photos also won't fully close. I have a box on my desktop stating that it is "Closing the Library" whatever that means. I can't get photos to force quit either. iCapture shows the photos on the SD card, but the only thing Photos does is say that it is importing (it's not). The only that happens is my camera goes to sleep from the inactivity. Are there any tricks or solutions to get Photo to work that don't involve turning of connection to the icloud?

If Photos is not set to use iCloud Photos Libray (on all your device a) it should continue to work just as it it before with your iPhoto settings for My Photo Sync and My Photo Sunc. Please confirm that these are still the settings on all your devices

What is iCapture? Or do you mean Image Capture?

When you turn on the Sidebar via the View menu, your camera device should be listed there. Select it and you should see an option to import all "new" images.

I'd suggest that you get a USB card reader and use that rather than attaching your camera, and use something other than Photos to handle your images, such as Lightroom. You can always organize your images yourself, dragging them from the card to a folder you have set up. Name the folders by date and subject. At least that way, you know where everything is.
