keep iPhoto when upgrading to el capitan from maverick

I have Maverick (10.9.5) on my iMac. I want to upgrade to el capitan, but I want to keep iPhoto (I have version 9.5.1) . Any help on how I can do this?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Back everything up, upgrade normally, click here, and follow the instructions. If you got iPhoto with your computer and haven’t associated it with the Mac App Store, you must do this first.

Thank you. I did get iPhoto with my computer. How do I associate it with the Mac App Store?

Open the Mac App Store, log into it, and click on the Purchases tab. If you aren’t prompted to associate it, check that it’s in the list(if needed, click here and follow the instructions) before proceeding.
