Its true - you can find articles on-line including one that they found an issue that can leave Windows computers open to mal-ware - and another one saying that its there and Apple is not going to fix it.

RIP QuickTime for Windows. Apple is "deprecating support" for the application, and will no longer patch security flaws in the software.

In this regard, QuickTime for Windows now joins Microsoft Windows XP and Oracle Java 6 as software that is no longer being updated to fix vulnerabilities, and subject to ever-increasing risk as more and more unpatched vulnerabilities are found affecting it.

So, Windows users should uninstall Quicktime. How to do so is detailed here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205771

Mac OS users should not do so as the security risks that have prompted this do not affect the Apple OS.

From an addendum to ckuan's macrumors link:

Update 4/18: Apple has confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that QuickTime will no longer be updated.

At bottom, Apple likely never has or will acknowledge security vulnerabilities in any software, for two reasons:

  1. it is bad PR for the Apple brand
  2. it is foolish to let the "enemy" know that you are even "on to him" when devising counter-measures - Apple just builds them into the next update (which is NOT gonna happen)
