Firewire/s-video/component/HDMI to "new" Mac

I have a Sony HDV 1000U camera, which connect through Firewire, s-video, component, and HDMI. My computer is a late 2011 21.5 Mac. I as wondering a few things.

  1. I am aware of the existence of a thunderbolt to ieee. Does it work by importing the camera data to computer? Or does it only work as an output(from a computer to another device).
  2. Is there such thing as a device which converts Firewire/s-video/component/HDMI to a Mac?
  3. Would a capture card work for HDMI?

You can use a thunderbolt > Firewire adapter. I use one with two external hard drives and a DVD burner/player. It works both ways. You can also simply take out the SD card (if it uses one) and use a USB card reader to plug it into the Mac - that's my preferred way as it is easier to deal with than trying to connect a camera. I don't know of any adapter which includes HDMI on a Mac.
