Q: iMovie 09 in OS 10.9.4

This version of iMovie appears to be having problems running in OS 10.9.4.  What version do I need to have to create new iMovie projects?

The latest version of iMovie 9 is 9.0.9 and it should run fine in Mavericks.

My copy of iMovie 09  is a version 8.0.6.

Is there a way to update it to 9.0.9?

Open the App Store, sign in with your Apple ID and password.

click on the Updates tab and look for an iMovie update.

I believe the only version of iMovie currently available from the App Store is version 10.

To use that you would need to update to OSX El Capitan.

iMovie ver 8 and 9 do not work without problems in El Capitan so do not go with El Capitan without investigation first.

Some of your other apps may also have problems with EC, depending how old they are.A few quirks with iDVD perhaps?

As Jim says, iMovie ver 9 should run well on Mavericks and so should your version 8.0.6

The only way to get iMovie version 9 is to obtain the iLife ' 11 install DVD from somewhere such as eBay.

If you describe the problems you are having with iMovie ver 8 /Mavericks then somebody here may be able to help.

Are these recent problems? Has it worked previously? What has Changed? What can't you do...?......etc

Give as much detail as you can.

As thesurreyfriends has said the only way to get from 8.0.6 to 9 is to purchase iLife 11 DVD. Once you have installed 9 then you can get the combo updater from Apple.com/support to update to 9.0.9. However your version 8 should be ok for Mavericks so tell us your problem and lets see if we can resolve it.

I solved the iMovie problem.  The project I was trying to use had problems.  Everything else is working.

    Thanks to all of you.

I have hesitated to upgrade to El Capitan because I am using a MacBook from late 2009.  I will continue to stay with Mavericks for the time being.
