Q: mac dictate instructions

Is there an instructional page where I can learn how to use the Dictatation function in the Dictation & Speech portion of System Preferances? Thanks.

Thank you - I actually got all of the instructions in the link...I was hoping it would explain why when I use my Command key and the microphone signals it's listening...once I speak...nothing happens. I was trying to use it in Excel for Mac, figured it isn't supported there...switched to Numbers, but the same thing happens. Thanks for you help -

Your welcome. Perhaps you can post in the Numbers forum and someone there has used Dictation to enter data.

Dictation works fine for me using Excel 2011 and OS X 10.11.4

I tend to use 'move down' and 'move left' when entering data because they're quicker to say than 'Press return key'. You can say 'show commands' to get a list of possibilities and 'hide commands' when they are in the way.

I'm tabbing manually...but the dictation isn't catching all the words...if I say "Report Center reports"...it types "Report reports"...etc. Sometimes it takes two prompts to get the microphone to listen...I think I'm giving up, since I can type faster than I can get the dictation to understand what I'm saying and correctly type it. Thanks though -

Are you using 'standard' (over the internet) or 'enhanced' (local processing) for dictation? Try the other one.

Does speaking a bit slower / closer to the microphone help?
