Q: iPhone 5s wont sync/backup to icloud

I turned off my icloud sync because every time I plugged in my phone I got a message (an annoying one) that my icloud storage was full, so it couldn't backup my files. This is ridiculous because I have enough space and really don't use icloud for much of anything. So now, my phone hasn't backed up to the icloud in almost 2 weeks, but I do have it backed up to the computer. I have tried to manually override this, reset the icloud sync (to do it automatically when plugged in), and tried to restore the phone altogether -- no luck. I have 1.29 GB free on my phone currently.

It is good that you have 1.29GB free on the phone, but if you check iCloud, how much storage do you have there? If you have been doing backups there in the past, then space would be taken up. You say you have enough space, but do not say how much. If the device will not backup to iCloud, then it is determining this somehow.

Settings/iCloud/Storage/Manage Storage - see how much free space you have on iCloud and delete some items to get more free space.

Not a lot I guess...732 MB. I have been deleting stuff all afternoon to try to get it down. I deleted half of my photos, cleared out ALL of my email. I am really starting to get frustrated.

If you look at your device and go to Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage, then under iCloud what shows for the Available storage?

It won't let me delete the old back ups either. It keeps telling me that it can't delete them at this time. ***.

That is not very much space when it comes to performing a backup. I don't always use iCloud backup, but here is a support document for troubleshooting iCloud backups. It also contains a section on troubleshooting deleting backups. Get help backing up your device in iCloud - Apple Support
