Q: Bootcamp panic

OK guys i have made a big **** up. Basically windows 7 on bootcamp was working fine. I then decided to shrink the bootcamp partition in windows disc management. And the space claim back i was going to use as the second windows simple or logical drive. I followed the wizzard and all my drives turned from blue primaries to light green logicals i think. I knew i was in trouble. Tryed to backstep but to no avail. Now nothing boots without using cmd r. I can see my main disc and the 4 disc partitions greyed out underneath it In disc util.nCan i restore this anyway without losing my mac data. Dont give a stuff about the windows particions. Please help totally scundered

Accept the default value it offers as shown

Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y

Creating entry for GPT partition #2 (MBR partition #2)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #3)

Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

Creating entry for GPT partition #4 (MBR partition #4)

Enter an MBR hex code (default 07): Press Enter/Return

Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): Y

OK so all was good on friday was able to delete the bootcamp permission and reclaim the space. Rebooted a few times in osx and all was good. Done a time machine backup of the complete system and quit for weekend. Back in today. Boot the mac and it lets me login contines through about half of remaining boot cycle and the the prohibitory sign appears. Tried safe mode, still wont boot. Disc utility shows the main internal hard drive with an untitled partition. Time machine cant find the internal hd to even reinstal to......... Macs dont like me, any ideas @loner t

Can you boot in Safe Mode in OS X? If not try Local Recovery.

In the Recovery Console, run Utilities -> Terminal and run diskutil list, copy the output, close Terminal, start Safari, post the output by pasting it as a reply to this discussion.

Normal service has now resumed after the time machine backup. There is a lession to be learned here.

    1. IMHO run windows on a window laptop or PC keep mac as a mac.
    2. Buy an external hard drive and use time machine regularly. I bought a 1TB drive and partitioned it in 4 for our 3 macs and remaining segment as a general backup for anything else.

At this stage in the proceedings I really cannot thank Loner T enough for their help and advice you have given a big big thankyou.

This is a bit of an extreme suggestion, but you can use an external disk and rotate it between your various Macs and test a periodic restore of the corresponding  backup to ensure validity. TM has some known issues.
