I just purchased a logitech ultra thin keybboard for iPad air. it has a port for a tiny cable, but no cable in box. what is the port for, and what am I missing?

Have you tried the Logitech support site?

My logitech keyboard uses a microUSB-to-USB cable for charging. Are you sure it wasn't in the box? Take apart any box-like pieces that appeared to be just packing material. It should have one. I got one with mine.

Since we don't know exactly what model of keyboard you bought, no way to tell what a nondescript port would be for.

Very likely a micro-usb port for charging the keyboard if it does not use batteries.

Otherwise you would need to provide the exact model of keyboard so we may look it up and attempt to figure out what the port is for.

Actually, Phil, the OP did give the exact model. It really is called the "Ultrathin Keyboard". It's a very nice keyboard. 🙂

WIfth my Logitech keyboard (iPad mini3) it was in a box which could easily be mistaken as part of the internal packaging.

If it uses replaceable batteries then it's not a charging port, the port may be so that you can use the keyboard as a PC or gaming keyboard.

Was it the keyboard shown at the link I posted? The keyboard does not have replaceable batteries. It has a built in rechargeable battery. Yes, you will need to recharge it periodically. How often depends on usage.

As was mentioned earlier it depends on which specific model of the keyboard we are talking about. If you check the Specifications page of the link provided earlier it says :

So if it's the Air 2 version you won't get a cable but you will need to find one sometime in the next 2 years or so but, if it's any of the other ones you need to go back to the place you purchased it from and request one.
