Does this happen when waking up from sleep while opening the screen? I have this issue when trying to open the macbook from sleep, aka black screen of death showing just the mouse pointer. Genius bar made 2 service attempts to fix this; eventually replaced with brand new macbook. Guess what...it happened again just couple of weeks later! I think this is an inherent issue with this line of macbook 12 inch early 2015. I am planning on taking it back to genius bar and will ask them to replace it with the new 2016 model.

When I took my Macbook in...it was like a dog at the vet. I was healthy and full of life...awoke from sleep immediately.

I didnn't have the dreaded mouse pointer. Took it in...and Apple Genius ran a diagnostic on hardware and software nothing came up. Did an SMC refresh and the problem seems to have dissipated. However, using it yesterday from a sleep cycle it took about 6 second to wake. I'm giving it until Monday to see how reliable it is. If it continues I'm going back obviously. Not too pleased.

Thank you for your insights on this, Richard.
