Q: why didn't my mac mini boot up?
So, a month a go, I could not get my mac mini to boot up past the dock. The cursor would tell me to wait, spinning rainbow, forever (like days). so I left it alone for a month.
now I am communicating with you as if nothing happened.

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.
Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
