Deleting Partial Downloads in El Capitan

I have some partially downloaded files that cannot be deleted, renamed, you name it. I've never had this problem before.

How do I get rid of these annoying files?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

to delete unfinished non-App Store downloads

close the browser or download application if it is open.

go to the folder the incomplete download resides in

e.g.

Macintosh HD/Users/[your account]/downloads

and delete any unfinished download (usually ending with the name ".download") by highlighting and putting it in the trash.User uploaded file

to delte an unfinished APP STORE Download

close the app store application

open terminal

type

open $TMPDIR../C/

press return and delete the folder

com.apple.appstore

open app store and begin the download again.
