safari deleting history

Hi everyone,

for some reason safari keeps deleting my history every time I quit the application. I have no idea why. I have done multiple things including making sure that in Safari it is selected on remove history items manually. I have also gone to the safari folder and moved the safari history files to the desktop, then quite safari and started it up again to try and see if that would make a difference. It did not. I have deleted my cookies and cache. I have also searched on this community and read about other people's solutions for it. None seem to be working. I just got this computer about 3 weeks ago so now I am wondering if I should just bring it back to apple and see if they can do something about it. Any ideas would be great though! This computer is a brand new Macbook Pro 13 inch running on El Capitan.

Unless you state exactly what you have tried, we have no way of knowing what didn't work.

t may just a matter of corrupted Safari preferences.

Quit Safari if it's open.

Now open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.

Relaunch Safari then check Safari > Preferences > General to reset your history items.

Go to several websites. Quit Safari then relaunch Safari. See if it deletes history now.

If the same problem persists, you may have installed a Safari extension or third party plug-in that's causing a conflict.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, uninstall one at a time then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Please back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Safari

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder named "Safari" should open. Quit Safari if it's running. One or more files in the open folder should have a name beginning in "History". Move those files, and only those, to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the files you moved back where they were, overwriting the ones that may have been created in their place. Otherwise, delete the files you moved. The browser history will be empty. If possible, restore the deleted files from a backup that predates the problem.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
