How do I transfer Microsoft Word documents to a new MacBook?

I'm finally converting to Mac after having a PC for almost 10 years. Is there a way to transfer my Microsoft Word documents to my new Mac? I just need to be able to open them once so I can at least copy the text from the documents. I have Word documents and "notepad" documents.

dell, Windows Vista

The Pages application should be able to open the Word files. If they're

on a USB or other drive media, they should be visible to the Mac OS X.

{If you are using the USB-C ported 12-inch Retina MacBook 2015+ you

may need to use cable adapter for standard USB to USB-C devices.}

If you have ton of stuff, you may be able to migrate from PC to mac.

And there should be some kind of additional applications from App Store.

Sometimes, TextEdit within the OS X may also open text files. Preview is

another application that has more than one purpose depending on filetype.

Good luck! 🙂
