Q: intel g5 no chime no display at startup

When the power button is pressed I can hear it start up but there is no chime, the screen remains black. I have removed and replaced the memory with no change.

VIN,Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8), 6 years old

FYI: There is no such thing as an Intel G5. The G5 chips were made by IBM.

The Mac Pro was introduced in August 2006 with an Intel cpu.

Resetting the SMC is recommended unless you can replace the PRAM battery. Not knowing which Mac you have will make it difficult to help you further, and Lanny is correct. No G5 system could install Mac OS X 10.6. Use this link to identify your Mac:
