Q: is soundtrack pro inclulded in Final Cut Pro x (i'm running old FCP 7 and have Soundtrack Pro 3) thinking of updgading to iMAC with FCP X

I have a very old Mac Pro G5 - probably vintage 2005.  Since it looks like the new Mac Pro's may be on the way out (no new one since 2013), I am thinking about souping up a new 27" iMac and converting from my old Final Cut Pro v 7 and Soundtrack Pro v 3 to the new Final Cut Pro X.

I can't find Soundtrack Pro by itself anymore and Apple iMac chat person thinks it is build into Final Cut Pro X now.  I'd like to confirm.

I use Soundtrack Pro to record vinyl records and CDs in my collection into Soundtrack to make a WAV file and to remove any noise like pops and clicks, etc.  Would want to do the same with Final Cut Pro X.  Can someone confirm that this function is there?

A second concern is how to get my audo and video signals into a new iMac Pro via the Thunderbolt connection.  I'm having trouble locating a simple Thunderbolt box that will hande both input and output from RCA jacks, SVIDED and Firewire from my old video cameras and sound gear.  Any suggestions?

FCP X has a lot of useful audio editing capabilities but it is not at all like STP. You might want to test it first hand by downloading the full featured trial version.

    Good luck.

    Russ,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I guess I could run STP alongside the new FCP under the new OS.  I haven't installed the new OS because it won't install - guess my machine is too old!  If I go with iMac, I'll ask the Apple Store to move over the STP application.

SOunds good - except make sure you install the  FCS apps with the install disks - or you'll encounter problems.

    GOod luck.

That will not work. The FCP suite of maps cant be moved from one machine to another. You must use ye olde FCP7 production suite installation disks on the new system.

I suggest you keep your old Mac, especially if you don't have the old packages, and just transfer your Soundtrack Pro work to your FCPX machine on as-needed basis. It might take a few months but you will quickly stop using STP, Motion, LiveType, Compressor, and FCP7 once you get accustomed to the new ay of doing things. If you are not familiar with FCPX, I strongly urge you to spend several hours trying to make sense of the paradigm before you launch into your first project. It's all different. Took me a l-o-n-g time to stop resenting everything about FCPX. You may be better at accepting change than I.
