How can I get my new WD Passport usb 3.0 to work on my 2008 Macbook with USB 2.0 ?

Hi folks!

Need your help please. I have a 2008 Macbook still going strong!! Has Mac OS X 10.7.5 running on it.

I recently purchased a WD MY PASSPORT ULTRA 1TB 3.0 USB to use for backing up my MacBook.

The PASSPORT lights up but is not recognized by my computer.

Before you say it may be a bad PASSPORT, It did get recognized and connect to my work MacBookAir.

I checked with Apple and they said the PASSPORT should work on the MAC as it is backwards tech and should connect (you just won't get the 3.0 speed).

How do I check? Is there a driver that needs to be updated?
