    Hello Jaysweedie,

That's a great upgrade from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6 Plus.  Nice of your sister!

Not sure why you are getting the "sim not valid" error, but check out this article,

If you get an alert about the SIM card in your iPhone - Apple Support

If you see an alert that says "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed," follow these steps.

    1. Make sure that you have an active plan with your carrier.
    2. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    3. Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    4. Restart your iPhone.
    5. Go to Settings > General > About and check for a carrier settings update
    6. Remove your SIM card from the SIM card tray and then put the SIM card back. Make sure that the SIM tray closes completely and isn’t loose. If you use a SIM tray from a different model iPhone or from another phone manufacturer, it might not fit properly.
    7. Try using another SIM card. If you don't have one, go to your carrier's retail store and ask them to test with another SIM card. You might need to replace your SIM card.

If you still see an alert about your SIM card, contact Apple support.

Learn what to do if you see a SIM not supported alert.

    Enjoy your new iPhone.

    Hi Jays,

there is a lot written about this SIM NOT VALID problem. Do a search and you will see all the other people with the same problem here. I have had several of these internationally locked iPhone 6's. They were replacement devices from AppleCare. As soon as I landed overseas, bingo, SIM NOT VALID. But the phones worked fine domestically. After so many months of the back and forth with Verizon and Apple, both just blamed the other company. It was a really wild experience because these are major companies. Long story short, the only way I could get movement was to file an online complaint with the FCC. I think it took 24 hours for both companies to call me, after the complaint was filed, and start getting a properly working device in my hands.

    Wishing you luck
