Q: Copy mail accounts and mails to another Mac

Hello,

I want to copy my mails with all mail-accounts from my iMac to my MacBook Pro. On both computers is the newest one of El Capitan installed (10.11.4).

Wich files/folders I have to copy?

Migrationsassistent is not a solution.

Thank you!

Wolfgang

    Howdy ebussinetz,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see you're wanting to copy emails from one Mac to another.  In this day and age, the easiest method for you to accomplish this is to simply add your email accounts to this other computer.  A majority of email service providers use IMAP for email storage needs, which keeps the emails on the server itself, rather than POP which downloads the emails to your computer.

    Set up Mail

When you first open Mail, you're prompted to set up your email account if you haven't already.

Choose your email provider from the list. If you don't see your email provider, click "Add Other Mail Account." Then click Continue.

Mail asks for your name, email address, and email password. Fill in this information, then click Create.

Mail completes your account settings based on the email address you provide, and in OS X Yosemite or later, Mail automatically maintains them.

    • If Mail doesn't recognize your email provider, it might ask you for additional settings.
    • If you need to add more than one Mail account, start with your primary account. Then use Internet Accounts to add more accounts.

    Use Mail on your Mac

    Take care.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Copy the Mail folder. Then go to Library/Containers/com.apple.Mail.

    Thank you.

    @alex_h1: I have more POP-accounts then IMAP.

@Eric Root: This I have tried but only some separate mailboxes where found by the mail.app and no Inbox and Sent.

I did copy the contents of ~/Library/Accounts and of ~/Library/Keychains then all mail-acconts did arrive on the MacBook Pro, but i had to type in all passwords.

    Regards

    Wolfgang

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages           For El Capitan, try looking in V3.
