Office for Mac 2011 Issue - Need Help ASAP

We have been having issues with Excel 2011 over the past few weeks. Most of the time it is when we hit save the document will say that it is either unable to save, or that it was saved but a copy could not be opened due to low memory. We all have enough free disk space, I even had mine upgraded to attempt to fix the issue. Alternatively, sometimes the files become "corrupt" but we are usually able to recover these. We also tried upgrading to Office 2016 for Mac, but that was the same, almost even worse.

Other things that are happening include images becoming corrupt, errors importing photos, if the file is minimized for more than 5 minutes it still shows open but won't come back to the front, word is giving errors when trying to save, etc.

We are having most of these issues with files that we are accessing through our server, which is a mac server running the most recent OS. These files must remain on that server, as they are files that are shared company wide.

If anyone has solved this issue I would really appreciate the help.

Here are some specs:

My computer:

Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7

Secondary Computer:

Mac mini (Late 2014)

Processor: 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Running: OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5

Microsoft Office Info:

Thank you!

Sometimes file saving can be a matter of file name length or illegal characters in the file name.

" Well, the error message is probably accurate and we have seen this happen. Have you renamed your HD or one of the folders to a name containing invalid characters? Slashes and other characters like " ! ' \ etc. can not be used.

Certain glyphs like " / ! ' \ * etc are not supposed to be used in path names, as they may have a different signification than what one can think. Microsoft has introduced a limitation with these in Office 2011 (it wasn't the case with Office 2008), in order to avoid compatibility issues in "mixed" environments."
