Hi, so i just bought a used second generation ipod nano and whenever i unplug it from the charger a line goes across the screen and i can't do anything with the ipod. Please help.

When you do a Reset (restart) on the iPod
Learn how to reset your iPod - Apple Support (see section iPod with a click wheel)
do you see that line on the screen when the Apple logo appears? If you do, it is probably a hardware problem. If the line is not there initially, but returns after the iPod starts up, you may want to do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes. This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.
If the problem still occurs after the Restore, the cause is likely to be hardware problem.
