Fortunately I don't use TM as an archive anymore. But, I thought that it was possible to delete a backup point in the TM. In other words say I wanted to delete just one day. I tried that and it deleted my entire TM, on two drives, separate systems.
Kind of odd.

Exactly what process did you use to delete the file(s)?
In TM, highlighted the date, clicked on the gear, and choose the delete all back ups of that date. I have used that process before with just files and it worked but not this time.

Generally it is best to leave Time Machine alone and let it operate the way it is designed.

As far as I can see I did the right procedure. Had actually done it on one or two of them without fail. Then, tried it again, same procedure and goodbye. Yea, agree to let TM be.
And as far as I can tell, I followed all the instructions since I didn't know how to do it. I wanted others to know what could happen. I agree to keep time machine alone and also want to encourage other NOT to use it as an archival option, which I had been using it as, until recently.
The whole TM deleted!
