Disk utility won't launch

Mac Pro Desk top Late 2013,

Processor: 3.7 GHz Quad-core intel Xeon E5

Memory: 12 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

Startup Disk: Macintosh HD

Graphics AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

Operating System is OS X El Captan Version 10.11.4

I was working with Pages when there was a community-wide power outage. A moment later the power came on. Restarted the computer, everything (folders, photos, etc) came up on screen except Pages. Pages would not launch (the spinning Beachball of Death). Then another power outage. A few minutes later the power came on.This time when I powered on and booted up, Pages opened with the same file I was working on in the exact same place just before the first outage. Now, my Time Machine disk icon does not appear on the screen. Disk Utilities won't launch (the spinning beach ball). I have forced quit and relaunched. Still no Disk Utility. I don't have a startup disk so I can't run an "outside" disk repair. Where or What do I do from here.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), See above panel

Repair the drive for El Capitan.

  1. Restart the computer. After the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
  3. Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.
  4. Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
  5. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

"Now, my Time Machine disk icon does not appear on the screen"

Reset the PRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM

If that doesn't help, reset the SMC > Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

For the other issues, booting your Mac in Safe mode deletes system caches that may help.

p left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
