Q: 2.7K downgraded to 2K on FCPX 10.1.3

I am using Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 and have taken some footage at 2.7K on a gopro hero 4 black edition camera. All of the footage I want to use in my edit is the same (Resolution: 2.7K, FPS: 60). However when I add it to the timeline it says that you need to pick your resolution because 2.7K isn't recognised. The nearest to 2.7K is 2K and I can get the desired frame rate (60fps). When i tried this it took forever to downgrade / downscale the clips and then the quality once exported was somewhat equivalent to 1080p. I tried exporting to Vimeo, YouTube and Master File and all came with the same result.

Is there any way if fixing this or any add ons that I can obtain to fix this problem.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Final Cut Pro X, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Final Cut Pro 10.1.3

CCreate a new project and enter a custom resolution.

COpy your timeline and paste it to the new project timeline.

You say you have El Capitan and FCP X 10.1.3 - a strange combination.

AFAICT, 2.7K is not one common video resolution. In fact it is not in general meant to be edited at that size, but rather to use the extra pixels for zooming or reframing in a HD or 2K project.

With 10.2.3 you can actually create a project at that 2.7K frame size by choosing Custom and entering the exact pixel dimensions. I believe this option was new in 10.2, so not available in 10.1.3.

Here is a tutorial I found that illustrates Luis' comments on using the UHD size for greater flexibility in re-framing.

That said, I also found some impressive 2.7k videos on Vimeo!

It's good that FCP X is now resolution-independent able and able to handle these interesting new sizes,
