I have a late 2006 macbook running 10.7.5 lion . Can I upgrade to el capitan or yosemite if I buy the os on disc

    Upgrades are downloads only, through the App Store.

     

    As you are on a 2006 machine you are stuck with Lion 10.7.5 I'm afraid.

    One, OS upgrades are done via download from the App Store, not by installation disc.  Two, your computer is too old to upgrade past Lion.  So, if you want to use a newer operating system, you'll have to buy a new computer.  Sorry.
