Q: I can't access family sharing

My entire family used to be on the same apple ID, however my son recently moved to the US so got his own apple ID and a new iPad. On his old iPad which he no longer has, he had set up family sharing however he was the only member in it as we never used it. Now, I have purchased the family membership upgrade on apple music and wish to add family members to it. To be able to do this, I need to set up family sharing. However, upon attempting to do this my iPad told me that it had already been set up by Bradley (my son) and that I need to contact him so he can send me an invitation. My son no longer has the iPad which he set it up on and no longer uses the apple ID which means it isn't possible for him to do this. Does anyone know how I can fix this or be able to reset it somehow? Currently wasting an extra £5 a month if I can't get this sorted. Thanks.

I guess the first thing I would try is to leave Family Sharing from Bradley's old  iPad and/or your's (I'm slightly confused which one you are referring to) by:

Leave Family Sharing - Apple Support

Any family member over the age of 13 can remove themselves from a family group at any time.* (*Age varies by country or region.)

Be aware that (according to that link):

When you turn off Family Sharing, you leave the family. After you leave a family, you can join or set up a new one. However you can only switch to a different family group once per year.

Then set-up Family Sharing.  Each person (in your family) should have their own Apple ID.

Try and rephrase EXACTLY what you are trying to do.  What is confusing to me in your original post (as I understand it) is that you refer to your iPad and your son's iPad (which I assume is a different iPad) which he no longer has and he set up family sharing (on his iPad?) as the only member (which "we" never used).  So how did Family sharing get on YOUR iPAD?  Why can't you remove yourself from the family group on YOUR iPad per the link above?  Or other family members from their iPads?  Then you should be able to start afresh.  The only restriction I see is that you can only switch to a different family group once per year.
